Football players generally reach their peak around the age of 26. However, there are some exceptions. Robert Lewandowski, for example, ages like good wine.
At the age of 33, the Polish striker is at the absolute apogee of his career. Last Monday, the Pole won Best FIFA Player award ahead of the Argentinian Lionel Messi.
“Of course, I am delighted with this new trophy. Although it is an individual one, it also belongs to the team […] I have to be thankful to my team and coaches” – Lewandowski said after receiving the prize.
Without coming back to the regrettable recent Ballon d’Or episode, one has to admit that “RL9” has been on cloud nine since he turned 30. His statistics talk for himself.
Last weekend, he scored yet another hattrick in the German league, scoring thereby his 300th goal in the Bundesliga. Only the German legend Gerd Müller scored more goals in this competition (365). What’s more, even this last record could quickly be threatened by the Polish goal machine, given his outrageous form. Last year, Lewy broke Gerd Müller’s 49-year record for the most Bundesliga goals in a calendar year.
This season, “Lewangoalski” found the net 23 times in just 19 league games in the German league so far. This represents an impressive ratio of over 1,2 goals per game!
The good news for his fans from Poland and abroad is that he continues to show his hunger for goals, titles, and awards on a regular basis. In other words, there is still more to come, and it is very good like this.
