Oliwia Dąbrowska was only three when she played her “girl in red” role in “Schindler’s List”. The film tells the real-life story of Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), a German industrialist taking the risk of saving hundreds of his Jewish employees during WWII.
Today, Oliwia Dąbrowska is working on the Polish-Ukrainian border, in Korczowa, just 12 miles (20 kilometres) from where Russia had bombed Yavoriv. She helps refugees by providing them with much-needed humanitarian assistance and support.
She also appealed to her thousands of followers on social media in the context of the fundraising campaign she is coordinating for those in need.
Pictured by the Polish/Ukrainian border that day, she wrote: 'We found Ukrainian family (mother with 2 kids) who needed transport to the very far city – near the German border.
Schindler’s List remains among Steven Spielberg’s most iconic productions. The film won seven Oscars in 1994; Best Director, Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Original, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing. It even won three Golden Globes.
The little girl in the red coat symbolised hope in a world dominated by brutality, chaos, and crimes. As the Back in Our Days Facebook page rightly put it: “She was always the symbol of hope. Let her be it again.”
