D-DAY veteran John Jenkins, sergeant in the Royal Pioneer Corp, died overnight at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham after a short illness. He turned 100 on November 16th, a month before his death.
John was a true legend, being one of the last few surviving D-Day veterans. He took part in „The 75th anniversary D-Day” commemorations in June, on Southsea Common, where he won a standing ovation.

He took part in “The Polish D-Day Story” organised in D-Day story in Portsmouth on June 22nd (more about it here) and he also won an ovation. The event was organised by 307 Squadron Project and The Polish Community School in Portsmouth.
He shared with us his story when he had landed on Gold Beach in 1944 as part of the Allied invasion of Normandy.
John will be really missed by the whole Polish community who respected Him a lot. His courage, bravery and good spirits should be an inspiration to us all.
Requiescat in pace!
