President Andrzej Duda met Donald Trump in New York

In a recent diplomatic engagement, former President Donald Trump convened with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday in New York.

This encounter marks another in a string of discussions with foreign dignitaries, occurring amidst Europe’s contemplation of the potential of a second term for Trump. The anticipated Republican nominee welcomed Duda at Trump Tower, where they discussed the war in Ukraine and Duda’s advocacy for bolstering defence expenditures among NATO allies.

The Polish leader reiterated his belief in the need for NATO members to take defence expenditures seriously. “Two percent [of a country’s GDP for defence] was good ten years ago. Now three percent is required in response to the full-scale war launched by Russia right beyond NATO’s eastern border” – he insisted.

Upon arrival, Trump commended the Polish president, affirming, „He’s done a fantastic job and he’s my friend […] We had four great years together. We’re behind Poland all the way” – Trump told the media.

Duda joins the ranks of other foreign leaders who have engaged with Trump since his confirmation as the Republican nominee. His visit follows Trump’s recent discussions with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, another NATO member and a fervent advocate for supporting Ukraine, held at the former president’s estate in Florida.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, has issued a stark warning of a potential “Third World War” if Ukraine fails to secure victory in its ongoing conflict with Russia. His urgency comes amidst a crucial vote in the U.S. Congress on a long-delayed foreign aid bill, with $61 billion designated for Kyiv’s support.
